Seasons of Love

Seasons Of Love

Walking through the streets of New York this week, I couldn't get the lyrics from “Seasons of Love” out of my head. Maybe it's the city, which always makes me think of the musical “Rent,” or maybe it's because this time of year always prompts me to reflect on the moments—big and small—that have shaped my year.

The song asks, "How do you measure a year?" I've been pondering the same question about 2024. As I look back, it's tempting to focus on the “hard” numbers: the number of coaching sessions I held, the number of clients I worked with, the number of places I spoke, revenue, etc. Your considerations might be similar—money raised, projects completed, or new destinations visited.

While there is merit in enumerating these factors, there's also merit in asking, what were the quality of these encounters?

We live in an age where the dominant narrative tells us more is more. From the stuff we buy to our schedules, filling our (head)space is an easy trap to fall into, one we're often celebrated for. If you google “busyness epidemic,” you'll find everything from declarations that busyness has become a status symbol to headlines decrying it as the new humblebrag. Either way, there's a consensus: constant busyness is impacting our health, wellbeing, and the quality of our relationships.

Consider the Intangible Gains

For me, the consensus feels like an invitation to measure our days, years, and lives differently. Beyond the tangible, we can also consider the intangible gains we made this year: the relationships we built, the things we tried and learned from, the investments we made in our health and well-being, and emotions like love, joy, and peace that enriched our days.

These are all valid—and I would say necessary—measures of success if we are to (re)discover our purpose and enjoy the journey.

Whatever measure you use, I hope you'll take some time to reflect on your 2024: the highs, the lessons learned, and what you want to achieve or experience in 2025. With that said, reflecting on what we did and didn't achieve isn't always easy—which is one of the reasons I love coaching. It offers a chance to dig deeper, uncover what truly matters, and create a vision for your future. If 2025 feels like a blank canvas—or even a puzzle you're not sure how to piece together—coaching can help you craft a plan. I'll be taking on new clients in February, and I'd love to support you in your journey, so book a discovery call today.

For now, I'm stepping into some rest, reflection, planning, and, of course, fulfilling my duties as Auntie Claus. As 2024 comes to a close, I hope your days are filled with joy, peace, purpose, and of course, love.
